BRAVO’s hit television show “Married to Medicine” has been giving everyone some good sweet southern tea every week. Now in its fourth season, the show follows seven women who are well established in the medical field and are MDs or married to MDs in the great city of Atlanta, Georgia.
Known for her straight talk, style and sassy one liners, EGL had the pleasure of sitting down with another star of the show, Mrs. Dr. Heavenly Kimes, to get the deets on the show, as well as some behind-the-scene projects she’s working on.
Dr. Heavenly is a leading dentist and founder of Smiles by Dr. Heavenly. Aside from having a successful career in her dental practice for more than 17 years and putting beautiful smiles on many patients’ faces; she also wears several hats in other fields. She is a best-selling author, a relationship expert, a spiritual advisor, licensed real estate seller and more. She is also the wife of Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Damon Kimes and mother of three beautiful children.
EGL: Welcome to EGL Entertainment, Dr. Heavenly, and thank you so much for sitting down and talking with us!
Dr. Heavenly: Thank you so much for having me!
EGL: With so many ongoing projects, how does a successful career woman like yourself find balance for your projects, family and even yourself?
Dr. Heavenly: You know what? That’s a question that everybody always asks me and at the end of the day, it’s all about priority and I know my priorities. I always say it over and over again: It’s God first and it has to be God first because without him, I am nothing and I can’t do anything. And then, it’s my family and then everything else after that. Once my kids are good, my husband is good; I have time for everything else. What I’ve done now is work part time— two days a week in dentistry—so I have time for other things. People think I’m busy, busy, busy— but not really. I wrote those books years back … I am a best-selling co-author of the book, Wake Up: Live The Life You Love. And I have a few [solo] books also, including The Business of Love, being my latest. I just use my time wisely and its first God, then my family, then everything else.
EGL: That’s awesome! We notice on the show you’re taking big steps on becoming a better person, being positive and also doing great on your weight loss journey, can you tell us a little more about that and how has that been so far?
Dr. Heavenly: Um…you say become a better person, but I don’t know if that’s the right term. Basically I want to be the best me I can be. Whether its weight loss, whether its personality, whether it’s profanity, everybody has things they need to work on and I chose to bring mine to the light going into the season this year. I don’t like the profanity. My husband doesn’t like it and it’s not acceptable for a lady but it’s actually a bad habit. So what I find is if you really want to make a change: you speak it, and read the word. I put the word on my wall and social media and that word resonates with you. I am a believer in vision boards and just writing things down; making them plain. That’s biblical as well. So I figured repetition— doing things over and over again—will make a change come forth. Now am I perfect? No. I probably will never be. But my spirit is perfect because of God’s grace so all I can do is the best I can do and if I fall, don’t talk about me— help me back up.
Can we get an Amen for that? Yes!
EGL: Wonderful! Congratulations on having your very own mobile dating app (www.PIQ.Dating)! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what advice can you give to our readers on how to keep things spicy after being married so long?
Dr. Heavenly: Well, you know people ask me that all the time as well, and I think with being a woman, it causes a lot of controversy, but if you hear me in the right context, a woman has to know her place in the household and in society. And that means we can get a lot more accomplished softly than screaming at our husbands. We have to mature, we have to be humbled and we have to be able to communicate. So those are the three things I would say: humble, knowing your place in the household, and as a woman, also communication…It’s got to be communication cause a lot of things go unsaid and you get a lot of misinterpretations just by not talking to a person.
EGL: Those are some great tips! Now what can we expect from the reunion coming up?
Dr. Heavenly: We shot the reunion last week Thursday and it was a mess. It was drama. A lot of people came together and maybe came apart for the last time or saw each other for the last time. I think there’s going to be some switching and moving around because some people just don’t fit in the group. And my whole thing is I can’t stand a liar. If somebody lies on you and defects your character, there’s no place for it. Not in our society, not in our community, not ever.
EGL: Well, we are certainly looking forward to that and definitely be tuning in! Are there any upcoming projects that you are working on that we can look out for in the future?
Dr. Heavenly: Actually, yes! I’m so glad you asked about the projects. I will have a radio show coming up. It’s going to be love and relationship advice with myself and Dr. Jackie. We actually differ on a lot on our views on relationships so that should be a prize. We’re actually going to be doing a segment on 103.9 in New York City. We also have a streaming show on World Star radio show in Atlanta and it will be also on my website on www.drheavenly.com.
We had a blast sitting down with Dr. Heavenly and catching up with her on everything that’s going on with and the show her latest projects and looking forward to seeing her and the rest of the ladies on the reunion. Catch Dr. Heavenly every Friday night on new episodes of Married to Medicine on Bravo and for more info go to her website at www. drheavenly.com as well on social media @dr_heavenly.
