The power of plaid is making a comeback. You may have a love-hate relationship with plaid since it can sometimes be hard to pull off; nevertheless you may need to freshen up your plaid selection. The cross hatched pattern has been in the fashion trend shuffle for decades. It is the perfect mixture of punk, prep and pretty.
Over time we have seen plaid and tartan rocked by the Scottish, British and the most memorable of them all, Cher and Dionne from Clueless. Yes, that was the 90’s but there is no argument that those girls were super fly.
So here are few looks that will help you understand the power of plaid..

Top – Mango Tie Neck Blouse – $17 | Pants – Gucci Tartan cropped wool trousers – $630 | Shoes – OFF-WHITE Suede Ankle Boots – $1,120 | Bag – Dolce & Gabbana I Love You Box Bag – $2,945 | Accessory – Georgia Perry Karl Lagerfeld Pin – $15
These Gucci trousers are absolutely adorable. We paired this lovely tie neck blouse with the trousers for a new age school girl feel. The suede ankle boots give the look some edge and we think the Karl Lagerfeld pin screams high fashion! You can rock this look to class or at a mixer on campus.

Top – MSGM Fringed plaid linen top – $145 | Jacket – Sans Souci Taupe vegan leather moto jacket – $59 | Skort – Barbara Bui Women’s Plaid Skort – $489 | Shoes – Gianvito Rossi Rolling 85 Suede Ankle Boots – $925 | Vivienne Westwood Women Medium Avon Plaid Wool Bag With Pins – $375
Now, this look is for the daredevil that doesn’t mind mixing plaids. You’ve got three different types of plaid all in one outfit. The trick to mixing plaids is that the patterns don’t have to match and the key is having the colors in sync. For the girl hitting the upcoming New York Fashion Week shows, this look is ideal because it is the epitome of taking risks. I think Cher and Dionne would be proud!

Pants – Boohoo Sally Open Knee Slim Leg Boyfriend Jeans – $22 | Shoes – Steve Madden Bryanne Nude Multi Suede Platform Sneakers – $89 | Gloves – Karl Lagerfeld Logo Embossed Fingerless Leather Gloves – $105 | VIVIENNE WESTWOOD ANGLOMANIA Hooded tartan poncho – $278
Ponchos are super on trend right now and this hooded tartan one in particular is pretty dope. You can dress this poncho up or down. We chose to dress it down with boyfriend jeans and platform sneakers. We could totally see GiGi Hadid rocking this look while being snapped by the paparazzi. It is comfy and stylish, so it’s a win.

Dress – New Chic Women Casual Plaid Long Sleeve Slim Mini Dress – $20 | Shoes – Sophia Webster Boss Lady Patent Leather Pumps – $490 | Bag – Charlotte Olympia POLKA PANDORA Clutch- $1,095
“I-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t… Do you know what that mean?” That’s what this look reminds me of, a boss lady that loves taking charge. New Chic has an affordable and career chic dress just for all of our bombshells in the boardroom. The beautiful hues of the dress are perfectly paired with the Sophia Webster shoes. We wanted to add some sass to the look so we found a cute polka-dot clutch.

Coat – VIPME Wool Blend Plaid Check Lapel Long Coat – $78 | Pants – Miss Selfridge Mink Wide Leg Cropped Trouser – $26 | Shoes – H&M Ballet Flats- $15 | Bag – Dezzal Textured Leather Flapped Handbag – $75
Last but not least, we have a long plaid coat from VIPME. It is simple but the white, wide leg pants make it elegant and up-to-date. An easy black tote and lace up flats just seemed faultless. Sometimes a day at the office or attending a parent teacher conference requires class and comfort. That’s why we created this look.
We have no doubt that the plaid trend is here to stay. How are you feeling about these looks? We want to hear from you in the comments!
