Lauren Wasser is not only a beautiful face she is a beautiful story. In 2012, at the age of 24, Lauren lost her leg due to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). TSS is most commonly caused by bacterial infections associated with the use of tampons. The infection caused gangrene, which resulted in the lost of her right leg below the knee. At the time Lauren had given up a basketball scholarship to pursue a career in modeling.
Since 2012 Lauren has become an advocate being TSS to the forefront.
This is not just about me. It’s about the future, and it’s about these young girls that use tampons all the time. If people see the pain I’ve had to go through, maybe they’ll be more cautious and they’ll use pads, stop sleeping in them and just take care of themselves more.
In 2016, Lauren slayed her debut on at New York Fashion Week in her gold prosthetic leg for the brand Chromat. Showing many people that having limbs isn’t actually a necessity for a supermodel.
I feel like I’m here for a purpose,” says the 5’11” beauty. “I want to show that this doesn’t define who I am. I’m still who I’ve always been and I still have a big heart and I still have a life to live. This has given me even more of a fight.
Lauren Wasser is not only a model, but a hero in the fashion world for showing young women that no matter your differences you can still slay the runway!
