We have all heard our stylist or someone who knows a little something about hair say this, “Girl you need to let your hair breathe!” Some of you know what it means, and some do not. No worries, I am going to break it down for you and why it is important.
“Letting Your Hair Breathe” means to simply take a break from weaves, extensions, wigs, clip-ins, braids, cornrows, basically any addition to your natural hair. As you read this, you probably think that I am crazy and that you would never do such a thing which brings me to explain why it is important to let your hair “air out” from time to time.
One primary reason to let your hair breathe is to relieve tension from the circumference around your head including your edges, nape, and temple. These areas are pulled on the most when you are adding extensions. Over pulling can cause breakage and thinning edges. I know this all too well from experience. Constantly adding extensions, even if its protective styling can bring your natural hairline back. In some cases, you can even lose your edges permanently. We do not want that at all!
So as a quest to save the edges, here are some gems to help keep your hair in good health.
Camile Rose Naturals Cocoa Nibs & Honey- Ultimate Growth Serum, $16.00. This serum is a healing hair oil blend crafted to combat thinning and hair breakage; perfect for those thinning edges!
Dr. Miracles Temple and Nape Grow Balm, $7.79 is created especially for the delicate temple and nape areas, such as those thinning edges. This product is full of antioxidants, amino acids, proteins, and anti-inflammatories to promote hair growth and stimulate blood flow to the scalp. Also, this product is very affordable!
Now that I have not only broken down why you should keep your edges intact, I have also included help for those fighting for the health of their edges. Always remember healthy hair is better than hurting hair!
