Before Pretty Ricky, Trey Songz, or B2K, there was Jodeci.
With hits like “Forever My Lady,” “Come and Talk To Me,” and “Freek’n You,” the street-flavored quartet sold over 20 million records worldwide to date.
As if The New Edition Story biopic wasn’t enough, you might want to brace yourself for this next biopic. Two-words: OOOOH YEAAAH.
Mr. Dalvin of the bad-boy group Jodeci announced the script is complete and the project will into the production phase next month. The movie is reportedly set to air on VH1 before the end of the year.
Some of us millennials may have been tiny tots while the group was in their prime; however, Jodeci’s music lives on through many artists we know and love today. The group has been mentioned and sampled in songs by a number of artists including Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Wale, and Bryson Tiller. In 2013, Drake and J. Cole released a freestyle entitled “Jodeci” as a way to pay homage to the notable group.
Christian-raised brothers K-Ci and JoJo began singing gospel before joining forces with Mr. Dalvin and DeVante Swing, who were apart of a local family gospel group. The two duos met through mutual friends and formed the group we know as Jodeci. The North Carolina-Virginia collective signed a contract with Uptown Records and was assigned to intern Sean Combs, who worked his magic to develop the group. Combs helped shed their gospel persona and created a “bad boy” image, dressing them in urban baggy clothing and Timberlands. This 90s boy band had their fair share of drama including drug use, an abusive high profile relationship, and the notorious East Coast vs. West Coast beef.
This sounds like all the makings of a juicy biopic! Will you be tuned in?
