Ever since Nick Cannon announced his resignation from NBC’s talent competition show, America’s Got Talent on social media last month, the network had been searching for a new host. However, shortly after Cannon stepped down, the network found a perfect match and fierce new host. Howie Mandel recently announced via Twitter that Tyra Banks would be replacing the former host.
Cannon left the show after almost a decade of hosting, reportedly over a falling out involving a racially charged joke told on a Showtime comedy special, using the acronym “NBC” as a racial slur.
The actor later claimed on Facebook that NBC’s executives threatened to terminate him over the joke.
“After days of deliberating over some extremely disappointing news that I was being threatened with termination by Executives because of a comedy special that was only intended to bring communities closer together, I was to be punished for a joke,” Cannon wrote.
As far as the new host: Banks has her heart set on the show biz industry for a very long time, made obvious through her past endeavors.
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible,” Banks said in a statement. “I love how ‘AGT’ brings that feeling into everyone’s home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true. I look forward to connecting with the dreamers, having fun and giving hugs and words of encouragement when needed. And maybe I’ll get one or two performers to smize for the audience!”
The supermodel turned her runway success onto television, hosting her self-titled talk show, Tyra, in 2010. The 43-year-old Emmy award winner also unforgettably created her own show in 2003, America’s Top Model, which lasted 23 seasons—until this year, that is.
Simon Cowell will also be a new face on America’s Got Talent’s judging panel. The auditions for season 12 are now open, and the series will most likely begin airing soon.
Good Luck Tyra!
