Beyoncé stopped the world yet again when she dropped her visual album Lemonade on April 23rd. The album was very raw and emotional, ensuring rumors that Jay-Z was unfaithful in their marriage. Some listeners also felt that Beyoncé’s album could’ve been a reflection of her mother and father’s marriage. Now, Tina Knowles is speaking out about her daughter’s groundbreaking work that has everyone wondering.
“People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that’s a part of it because that is something you have to heal from,” she said in an interview with ABC 13. “If you really listen to the poetry it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people.”
Mama Tina recalled a time when she had a sensitive moment following her divorce from Matthew Knowles. She said that it was the support from her family and friends that helped her regain strength.
“I remember my first little pity party and I called them crying and you know, they all came,” she said. “We had a slumber party, we watched old movies all night and ate ice cream–it was very healing.”
Mama Tina also said that we all have experienced betrayal in one way or another, which is what makes Bey’s message relatable and empowering.
