Since a little earlier this month, Rihanna has been work work working nearly every night as she performs in different cities of the United States with Travis Scott as her opening act. With purchased tickets and excited fans patiently waiting for the international leg of the tour to begin, we are hoping they are not met with disappointment as there will be one less person on the stage.
Abel Tesfaye, better yet known as The Weeknd was slated to travel abroad and perform for a two month period on the European trek of the ANTI World Tour. However, due to a conflict with his upcoming projects, he has officially dropped out of the lineup.
“Due to some unforeseen changes with upcoming projects, The Weeknd will no longer be joining Rihanna on her upcoming international ANTI World Tour,” a representative from Live Nation told Billboard. An insider further explained that Abel has “hit a stride on his new album and decided not to interrupt the process.”
Despite delays in the release of ANTI as well as the start of the tour, Rihanna has continuously overcome those obstacles, making headlines for the overwhelming amount of love she has received for her work thus far. We can only assume that she tackles The Weeknd’s absence on the tour with the same level of success and even more jaw-dropping performances.
The international leg of the ANTI World Tour begins on June 17. Travis Scott and Big Sean are still scheduled to open up for Rih Rih. We’re sure they can hold down the stage on their own. In the meantime, The Weeknd should be working on one of the greatest albums ever because our expectations are now at an all time high!
