It hasn’t even been a full two weeks into the New Year and some of our favorite celebrities may already need a do-over. We are counting down. Here’s our top 5 Biggest L’s of 2017 so far.
- Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes:
The final days of 2016 ended with many famous deaths—Princess Leia, George Michael and lastly, Ronda Rousey’s career. On December 30th, 2016, Rousey returned to the ring after a one year hiatus from her defeat knockout loss to Holly Holm with the infamous head kick. Rousey, who is known for her bad-ass, trash talking and impressive quick submission defeats, may have met her match. In just 48 seconds (1st round), Amanda Nunes landed some severe but impressive punches, which almost knocked Rousey off her feet. The referee quickly stepped in to stop the fight, making Nunes the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion of the world. What makes this fight the biggest L is that the punches were brutal, leaving Rousey’s face black and blue with swollen cheeks. It was definitely hard to watch. Should she retire or fight back? Hopefully, this is not how we will remember Rousey for 2017.
Rousey broke her silence on the fight via Instagram:
Singing her way to our list is…..
- Mariah Carey: Dick Clark’s New Year Rockin’ Eve Concert:
Mariah Carey (Yes she’s on the list) is one of the most talented female entertainers in the world. Carey is the first female artist to have a total of 18 No. 1 singles and has a vocal range that is so impactful, which only confirms her greatness. So Ms. Carey will get a pass, just this once. The singer was set to give a memorable performance in Times Square and boy did she give it. Carey opened up the show singing “Auld Lang Syne” and “Emotions” but fans quickly noticed Carey’s track did not match what she was singing. What was suppose to be a stunning performance quickly turned into a complete embarrassment. Now what made her performance even harder to watch was when she performed “We Belong together.” She visibly look frustrated and gave up, letting her hit song continue to play. Awkward!! Carey received a lot of backlash from her performance. She took to social media on Sunday, January 1, saying, “Sh*t happens, have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017.”

Can I get an Amen…or NOT!
- Kim Burrell: Homophobic Sermon
Kim Burrell is a well-known gospel preacher and has recorded several songs which includes the Hidden Figures soundtrack, “I See A Victory” ft. Pharrell Williams. It’s safe to say religion is one of the few topics of discussion that can go left real quick and unfortunately for Burrell that’s exactly what happened. Burrell can be seen in a 2- minute video preaching about homosexuality during a church sermon in Texas. Burrell referenced gay people as, “the perverted and homosexual spirit and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.” After the video went viral, the singer’s scheduled performance on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” was cancelled. Soon after, her radio show, “Bridging the Gap with Kim Burrell” was also cancelled, along with her being uninvited from an upcoming gospel event. Sheesh!! Kim has since responded to the media (not backing down from her remarks) saying she never discriminated against the LGBT community. “I love you and God loves you, but God hates the sin.”
Back to Back….
- Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj Breakup:
Poor Meek Mill! The Philly born rapper can’t seem to catch a break. On Thursday January 5th, Nicki Minaj confirmed she is single via twitter, “To confirm, Yes I am single. Focusing on my work and looking forward to sharing it with you guys real soon. Have a blessed New Year. Love u.”
Back in 2010, even when the “Anaconda” rapper was taken, Meek made his feelings known, “My goal is 2 get Nicki Minaj B4 somebody else do!!!!.” Since her announcement, rapper Soulja Boy (who is on our list) left heart emojis under Nicki’s picture, rapper The Game and Safaree (Minaj’s ex) chimed in on her new found freedom with comments like “Hey Big Head.” It looks like Meek will have to live with the haunting lyrics from Drake, “I don’t want to hear about this again ever again, not even when she tell’em that they better as friends.”
Not only that, he recently took the worse fall of 2017.
And the winner of the Biggest L goes to…..
- Soulja Boy: When the hood don’t love you!
This by far has to be one of the funniest, humiliating days for Rapper Soulja Boy.
After beefing with singer Chris Brown via social media over Karrueche Tran, Soulja decided it was a bright idea to walk through Compton and show his street credibility. In an Instagram live video, you can hear Soulja saying, “They say Soulja aint from the hood,” while trying to put his hands around another man. But the man clearly wasn’t having it and pushed Soulja away. Then, sh-t just hit the fan! Soulja was told to “cut that weird shit out,” before his phone got snatched. The video went viral and Soulja became the butt of all jokes. It’s a good thing the rapper had his crew there to keep him safe.
Chris Brown and Soulja will settle their beef through a charity boxing match which will is sponsored by TMT, Floyd Mayweather, so buy your ticket because March 2017 is the live paper view event. If Soulja loses this boxing match, he will officially hold the crown for the rest of the year. Who are you betting on?
There you have, EGL’s Biggest L’s of 2017 so far. Who else should’ve made the list?
