Who says that we must do the same hum drum turkey and dressing all while dodging questions about our love life and next academic endeavor. We’ve all been there with the same old dry turkey and juicy gossip that can turn dinner with family more into fight night at the MGM. So, to make sure that Thanksgiving doesn’t stress you to no end, how about we talk about a few alternatives to Turkey Day that will leave your taste buds fulfilled, and your state of mind as peaceful and humble as a piece apple pie.
Feast of Seafood– Over the past years, for as long as you probably remember we have been inundated with turkey, dressing, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and the ever loved or forever hated… cranberry sauce! What about if we shake it up this year with a seafood buffet filled with everything that we can think of that is edible yet visually appealing from the sea (no octopi, it will gross out the kids!). This buffet can be set up to start with delectables such as blue crabs, crab legs, to shrimp, clams and mussels to those tricky Crawdaddies. Of course, all the fixings such as potatoes, corn, rice, and sausage can go along and make this Turkey Day Seafood Boil a success. Now, seafood can be costly so a small donation from family members can add up to fund this feast and can possibly weed out those cheap family members that are full of talk with empty pockets, usually cutting out on pesky gossip.
Feast of Two– Now, some years we are not into the family thing at all, you may be a first-year couple and you are OVER people asking about when the baby will come. It maybe that you’ve had a hard year and you just want to enjoy the company of your spouse or loved one and start to make your own holiday traditions. So, why not make it all about the two of you! Maybe take a cooking lesson from one of those handy GROUPON deals and show what you know on Thanksgiving Day! The day is all about family and being grateful for who and what you have in your life, and although you maybe grateful for everyone in your life, you may just want to celebrate with that special one. No worries that is allowed.
Feast of Many– So, now we get right down to what the Thanksgiving Holiday is all about and that is being grateful and to give of yourself. There is no better way than to make your way to your local shelter and donate items or time to for the homeless or for displaced families living in transition. The feeling of total warmth will fill your heart as you see people’s faces as they park their worries and woes at the door for a few moments of peace and a wonderful meal, all thanks to the help and love of you!
Thanksgiving your way is the motto, and you are the key!
