It looks like critics are coming after Alicia Keys because of something she’s not putting on HER face. Yes, people are really upset with the singer’s “no makeup movement.” After appearing at the 2016 VMAs in her natural glory, people took to Twitter to let her know how they feel about it!
In the case of non-makeup wearing superstar Alicia Keys vs. the natural-faced rebuttal group, it appears the judge and jury have come to a verdict: DISMISSED.
Y’all, me choosing to be makeup free doesn’t mean I’m anti-makeup. Do you! ?? pic.twitter.com/Mg0Ug9YA9q

The queen’s King, Grammy-winning and well-respected music producer, Swizz Beatz, stepped into his judge’s robe after the uproar, addressing his wife’s bare face and promptly putting Keys’ haters back in their place.
“Somebody sitting home mad because somebody didn’t wear makeup on their face,” he said in the video. “Not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup. But you mad because that person didn’t put on makeup to please you? Type of sh-t is this? Cause you can do whatever you wanna do. She didn’t tell y’all don’t wear no makeup. She just said that she’s not vibin’ with the makeup all the way 100 percent like that. That’s kinda her thing that she wanna do.”
There is definitely a standard in place when one decides to put themselves in the public eye. From Hollywood to Broadway, to politics and corporate America, makeup is a basic necessity for most and definitely a part of our society’s beauty standards. To be fair, it’s understandable how some eyes could get sore at seeing natural beauty on television when we are used to seeing faces BEAT TO THE GAWDS! However, Alicia Keys’ no makeup movement reminds us to love our true selves, whether we choose makeup or not.
Kudos to Alicia for being herself and living life on her own terms! #DoYou
