Socks and Sandals? Worn at the same time? Who does that?!
The sock and sandal trend is a time period in style that many don’t get or understand. Nor, do they really want to, for that matter. Lots of people believe it is a ridiculous fashion statement worn by elderly men and nerds that just looks silly and desperately needs to be nixed from our global fashion database… FOREVER! Which leads us to our question of the day: Where on earth did this fad come from? If you’re really interested in finding out, keep reading! EGL has the scoop on how all of this came to be.
Whether you choose to believe it or not, the sock and sandal trend has been around for centuries. Contemporary people and times curved our way of thinking, by stating that this was something that should be frowned upon. The earliest evidence of the trend is documented at the archaeological site in North Yorkshire, England. Archaeologists would put on socks with their sandals once their feet started to become covered with dirt and mire while digging.
With all of that being said, we have to conclude that this style movement is one that will never dissipate and here’s how we know! Recently seen on the Milan runways for Spring 2017 Men’s Fashion Week, socks and sandals dominated the style sets with a vengeance! Designers from Prada to Versace, were all creatively endorsing the craze, leaving us no choice but to back them. The looks were put together so well, that you really were left with no choice!
We’re not talking tube socks and flip flops, here! We’re talking rich leathers, 3-D shaped embellishments, double and single strapped footwear, Velcro closures and the list just goes on. Proving to the public that anything can be tastefully created. It’s really all about the how in which it is.
So, now, the geeks and male AARP members that we once mocked and slandered with low-key photo taking and tweets, can now feel like they are keeping up with style. And, we have to take that for what it is… IT’S FASHION! And, it changes on us everyday!
Drop us a comment letting us know how you feel about the sock and sandal trend. And, don’t forget to share!
