Karen Civil is a rarity in the entertainment industry. The social media maven deemed “The Next Oprah,” manages to be both a guy’s girl and a girl’s girl. Karen curates content and crafts social media campaigns for brands and artists alike, all while fabulously dressed from head to toe by tastefully mixing prints and textured patterns with flowing silhouettes. Continue reading to find out more on her backstory and to see more on she pulls it all together for each facet of her unconventional career.
If you read her Twitter bio you’ll see that Karen Civil dabbles as a philanthropist, author, entrepreneur, Hillary Clinton rally host, and has some connection with west coast rappers Nipsey Hustle and YG.
She started her digital take over in the eighth grade when she created a Backstreet Boys fan site! Fast forward to a couple of years later and Civil really got her foot in the door when she served as an intern with DJ Funk Master Flex at the legendary Hot 97 radio station in New York City. This internship afforded her the opportunity to work for Dipset where she soon after left her New Jersey roots to travel to Los Angeles, CA to be the social media manager for Beats by Dre from 2011 to 2014.
In 2014 Karen began building her personal brand and landed the cover of Dope Magazine. Teaming up with stylist India Monae, the digital diva slayed the cover in a pin-striped two piece set, embellished choker and cocaine white blazer.
For Karen’s spread, India Monae paired a sheer top adorned with vine overlay over a gold high-waisted hi-low pleated skirt. This spread let the world know that Civil could come out from behind the computer and demand an audience with her presence.
Karen’s first website was known to give exclusives on rappers prior to them making it onto the top 40 charts. Once that site was established she went on to launch www.livecivil.com. Live Civil is a lifestyle site that caters to a female audience by providing them with everything from black girl magic encouragement, to feel good stories and shopping opportunities! Karen also uses Live Civil to reach out to her fans by letting them know what you can expect from her and where she’ll be making her next appearance. So cool… RIGHT?!
At those appearances, it is a good chance that you may see Karen Civil in the apparel sold by one of her boutique sponsors, Fashion Nova.
At this year’s Essence Fest Karen was photographed in a Aztec printed maxi dress, courtesy of Fashion Nova (of course). In the caption of this picture, she shared her personal discount code with all of her followers so that they could get one just like it! Securing such a strong sponsor and prominent Los Angeles-based boutique such as Fashion Nova, is living proof that Karen is a fashionable, fun and confident woman who is sure of herself inside and out. We see it, too, Civil! Fashion Nova isn’t alone.
A big turning point in Karen’s personal branding came earlier this year when Karen Civil landing the cover of Rolling Out Magazine. Again, Karen tapped India Monae again to show her current audience the results of her vegan diet, and introduce new followers to a brand specialist with an amazing fashion sense.
Karen graced the cover in a little black dress with fringe ornamentation covering its sheer panels. For her inner spread of the magazine, the social media strategist dons a gold choker, cropped cape with matching pants and nude heels. WERK, Karen!
On top of all of this, Karen reached a major milestone in her career when she signed on as a rally host for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.
In the picture above, Karen is seen standing at a podium with a nude colored midi length skirt pairing it with a patriotic, cherry red top and sophisticated nude pumps. We love how versatile her style portfolio is! Can she ever fashionably go wrong? We think not…
For her photo with Senator Clinton, Karen rocks a red dress with a featured pussybow that ties at the neck and frames her face appropriately. She flawlessly executes transitioning from urban settings to White House and proudly shows up well-dressed and ready to impress!
With a career that anyone would die for and a closet full of enviable fashions, it is only right that we highlight Karen Civil for her contribution to American and pop culture.
