Recently, a much-anticipated docuseries, “Surviving R. Kelly,” premiered on Lifetime focusing on the sexual allegations posed against the singer during his career. The series featured several interviews from his ex-wife to women claiming Kelly participated in sexual misconduct when they were underage, to parents who claim their daughters were brainwashed by Kelly, and celebrities such as John Legend and Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards.
Many women took to social media to express their thoughts about Kelly’s allegations by supporting the hashtag #MuteRKelly. The word “mute” ending all support for the babymakin’ hits he’s known for in the world of R&B. RCA Records dropped Kelly following the resurgence of sexual allegations against him, including his music’s removal from particular streaming platforms, such as Spotify.
Here’s an excerpt from the 19-minute song Kelly released on Soundcloud titled, “I Admit,” where he addresses some of the allegations against him:
I did some shit I shouldn’t have did
I admit I can’t say such and such
But my lawyers told me to settle this
Even though it’s bullshit
How they gon’ say I don’t respect these women
When all I’ve done is represent?
Take my career and turn it upside down
‘Cause you mad I’ve got some girlfriends
EGL conducted a Twitter poll to see if those who have supported Kelly’s music in the past remain loyal fans despite the allegations revealed in the docuseries. Here are the results:
Did the Sexual Allegations Against R. Kelly Make You Stop Supporting His Music?
— Lil’ Dai ?? (@LadyBossDai) January 20, 2019
From the moment he married singer Aaliyah when she was only 15 years old to different women accusing him of having a sex cult today, R. Kelly has continuously denied every allegation. He was even acquitted of all 21 charges pending against him in regards to child pornography.
Our poll results were close, but most people are no longer supporting R. Kelly’s music following the sexual allegations detailed in the Lifetime docuseries.
Where do you stand?

I stopped giving him my money after the video was released years ago. Now I have to be honest, I don’t “mute” him if he comes on the radio but he won’t get a dime from me. Period.
