ASCAP which formally stands for American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has put together their first ever “She is the Music” song camp and queen Mary J. Blige has announced she will now be a part of the project. “She is the Music” is an initiative to provide opportunities for female music creators as well as advancing inclusivity and equality for women in music. The event comes in response to a music industry report which revealed an enormous amount of inequalities for female musicians. Such a cause hits home for Blige as she herself is a female songwriter whom has probably felt those inequalities first hand.
“I’m looking forward to collaborating with these amazing women and to contribute to the goals of the ‘She is Music’. We all have the power to create change as we continue to lift each other up, we will be unstoppable,” said Grammy winning Mary J. Blige.
The camp took place October 17-19th at hit producer and music exec, Ron Fair’s ‘Faircraft Studio’ in Nashville, Tennessee.
Other acts associated with the event are songwriting talents from all genres ranging from pop to hip-hop to country. These songwriters include superstar Alicia Keys, Stacey Barthe who has written hits for Rihanna, as well as Ingrid Burley who is responsible for Beyonce’s “Love Drought.”

Other musical engineers and CEO’s will also be apart of the project! The song camp is definitely for a great cause and will hopefully be a reoccurring annual event for young women looking to get their shot in the music industry.
Congratulations to Mary J. Blige and all of the other amazing talents involved!
