VH1 is well on the way to making its Divas Holiday Special the musical staple that it once was.
After announcing that Mariah Carey will be headlining the show, VH1 also revealed that the Queen of Sweet Potato Pies, Patti LaBelle, will be joining the lineup for a VH1 Divas: Unsilent Night.
Between the two iconic women, they have both released countless holiday albums and Carey is known as the Queen of Christmas with her top-selling single, “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
This will be Carey’s third stint on “VH1 Divas” since its inception in 1998. After the announcement was made, Carey stated that she’s “thrilled” to perform for her fans and called the holiday season her “favorite and most festive time of the year.”
Miss LaBelle is no slouch either in the Christmas music credentials department with her two holiday projects; 1990’s This Christmas and 2007’s Miss Patti’s Christmas. Miss LaBelle is a Divas alum with her last appearance being in 2004 in Las Vegas with Jessica Simpson and Gladys Knight.
LaBelle expressed joy in a statement to Billboard saying:
“I’m so thrilled to share the VH1 Divas stage with Mariah, who is not only an incredible performer, but also my goddaughter.”
More performers are set to be announced at a later date.
After taking a four-year hiatus, the highly anticipated “VH1 Divas” special will tape on December 2 at the Kings Theatre in New York and the TV special is set to air on December 5 at 9/8c.
