When clips of Nicki Minaj’s recent interview on “The Ellen Show” went viral, it was only a matter of time before blogs turned the juiciest quotes into headlines, omitting the vital information that would properly summarize the purpose of her statements. Nicki’s reference to Meek Mill as the “boy who likes me” and her expression of the fact that she doesn’t want to say she is in a relationship anymore quickly turned into rumors of the rap star being single. To their dismay, Nicki Minaj was not having that!
Upon hearing rumors of her alleged breakup, Nicki posted tweets of those loyal fans who looked past the headlines and took their time to listen to the entire interview. The tweets generally called the blogs out for distorting information for the purpose of their ratings.
She followed up with a post on Instagram denying the rumors and confirming that she is indeed still in a loving relationship with Philly native, Meek Mill.
“It would be very remiss of you to not watch what I said about Valentine’s day prior to writing or believing a headline about my comment. I’m not single,” she shared.
In regards to the aforementioned interview, The Pinkprint superstar paid Ellen a visit on the April 7th airing of “The Ellen Show” to promote her latest movie, Barbershop: The Next Cut. After noticing that her “engagement ring’’ was not visible, the talk show host inquired about its whereabouts only to be met with Nicki’s clarification that she was never engaged.
“I have two rings from this boy that likes me … and he said that that’s my second ring and that if I get a third ring that that would be the engagement ring,” Nicki stated.
She continued on explaining that she was unsure about marriage and in fact was not the biggest fan of relationship titles.
“I don’t know. We’re still figuring each other out. And, in fact, I don’t even want to say I’m in a relationship anymore. I think when people hear that they go to, like, the mean place.”
She then went on to provide an example where she explained that her lack of posts on Valentine’s Day led to rumors that she was single despite the reality that she not only spent the entire day in bed with her love, but had also received a total of three gifts. That experience alone taught her a valuable lesson which she shared with Ellen:
“You just have to do you and make yourself happy and forget about trying to get everyone’s approval. It’s better to just keep those things sacred. So now, I don’t really care to say I’m in a relationship or I’m engaged or whatever.”
Minaj ended the topic of Meek Mill with an obscure yet poetic description of their relationship:
“He and I are just two souls right now, passing through the universe. I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I just have learned over the years to not…to just let things be and come and go as they’re gonna come and go.”
Though we may not know what the future holds for Omeeka, we do know that if false details of her current status with Meek Mill are shared, Nicki Minaj is not afraid to set those rumors straight!
Barbershop: The Next Cut comes out in theaters on April 15, 2016.
