There is a new biopic on the way!
This time it’s all about the legendary female MC, Miss Roxanne Shante. The film is set to be produced by famous actor, Forest Whitaker. As we are not sure on details of the entire cast, we do know that Nia Long, another legend, has landed the role of Roxanne’s mother. The biopic is officially named Roxanne, Roxanne, taking place in Queens, New York where Roxanne Shante was born and raised.
The 46-year-old MC, born, Lolita Shanté Gooden shared the photo above of her and Nia earlier this week captioned “When your sister Nia Long is playing your Mama MissPeggy in the 80’s, You can only feel so honored and so so blessed. #roxanneroxanne The Movie, The Roxanne Shante story #plzbelieveit.”
Roxanne Shante grew to fame for the Roxanne Wars and her association with The Juice Crew as well as the legendary record, “Roxanne’s Revenge,” solidifying her spot as one of the first female MC’s in the history of Hip-Hop. With that being said, a lot of fans were upset not to see Roxanne as one of the honorees on the recent VH1 hip-hop honors, which was centered around female MC’s. Although she was not on the list of honorees, we are excited that she is receiving her very own biopic. The movie is currently being filmed and is set to be released in 2017.
