Over the past year, the social media world has been running wild with a picture of Michael Jordan crying as he was giving a speech. Jordan’s face has been photoshopped onto anyone who has had an embarrassing moment or encountered a tough loss.
After the Panthers lost at Superbowl 50, many memes were made with Michael Jordan’s crying face on Cam Newton’s body. Since the meme has become so viral, MJ actually responded on how he felt about it.
A representative of Jordan told TMZ that the NBA star is actually cool with the trending meme. Since “Everyone is having fun with the meme,” why not? But, if you did not know, Michael is very protective of his brand. His rep also mentioned, “we haven’t seen anyone using it to promote their commercial interests, which is something that we’re monitoring.”
MJ is here for all the memes and the jokes, as long as no one plans to profit off it. And if that is something someone tries to do without permission, there will be trouble.
Last year, the Chicago Tribune reported that Jordan was awarded $8.9 million by a federal jury after the owners of a defunct supermarket chain used his identity in an advertisement without his permission.
In the report, Jordan had some comments about the issue…
“It is my name, and I’ve worked hard for it for 30-something years, and I’m not just going to let someone take it,” he said. “It’s not the type of court I like to win at. But unfortunately we ended up in this court, and I’m very happy with the result.”
The MJ crying meme does not seem to be dying down anytime soon. Be on the look out to see the next person to take an ‘L’ and end up with MJ’s face on their body.

We can go all day with these memes, but it’s good to know MJ can take a joke!
