Marc Jacobs assembled a star-studded cast for its Fall 2016 ad campaign and named Missy Elliot as the lead muse!

Since Missy hit the scene in 1991, she has been a fashion force for which to be reckoned. Who else do we know that can make a trash bag look as stylish as she did back in the day? Her music video for The Rain (off of her classic Supa Dupa Fly album) quickly achieved legendary Hip-Hop status within days of being released. Missy has consistently pushed boundaries, knocked down doors and rightfully commanded the world’s attention, so earning the top spot in the Marc Jacobs ad campaign only makes sense after reading her long list of achievements.

After wrapping the campaign, the designer immediately took to Instagram to express his joy for working with Elliot, “Missy’s music has kept me and my design team happily energized through countless weekdays, weeknights and weekends during those long hours of sketching, fitting, styling, and doing looks,” said Jacobs. “I am in continued awe of Missy’s ability to push the boundaries of the style of music both to the eye and to the ear. It was a dream of mine to work with her.”

Jacobs stated on his website that he became an Elliott fan the moment he heard her song The Rain in 1997 and she has been a favorite of his, along with the rest of his design team, ever since.

Joining Elliot is Sissy Spacek, Marilyn Manson, Kembra Pfahler and other notable names. The campaign, shot by David Sims, is meant to tell a story of courage, strength and inspiration. Each person has overcome an obstacle in the industry and has inspired others to do the same.

“In a continuing series of portraits for our Fall 2016 ad campaign, the individuals in these photographs represent a collective embodiment of love, honesty, integrity, courage, strength, curiosity and inspiration. Together, as one story, this collection is a reminder to question and challenge normal and to continue exploring and pushing boundaries,” Jacobs wrote on Instagram.
