Lisa Raye McCoy is sitting in the director’s chair of TVOne’s newest movie Skinned, which premiered Saturday, January 9th at 8/7c. Most notably known for her role as Diamond in The Players Club and most recently as Keisha Green in VH1’s Single Ladies, LisaRaye is making her directorial debut with this new project which dares to tell the infamous story of Jolie, a dark-skinned woman who grows up hating her outer appearance. After years of skin bleaching and misconceptions of beauty, her health is under attack and Jolie now has to face the “ugly” she never wanted others to see. The film stars the director, LisaRaye, Jasmine Burke and Brad James, who won Best Actor for his role in Skinned at the BronzeLens Film Festival.
This story, being analogous to the documentary Dark Girls, tells the struggle of so many black women, especially in America, who have and continue to struggle with colorism. In today’s society, it’s more important than ever for black women to love the skin they are in, whatever shade of brown, red or yellow one may be. It’s time to end the game between teams Dark Skin and Light Skin and really believe that all BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Take a peek at the trailer below and check your local listing to see Skinned on TV One.
