There’s some on-screen couples we’ll just never forget. We’ve followed their love stories season to season, riding their emotional roller coasters right along with them! And though all good things come to an end, their timeless characters and unforgettable stories stick with us. Here’s a list of some of our favorite TV couples:
Martin and Gina from Martin
Everyone knew Martin and Gina back in the 90’s. They shared a special goofy, yet passionate chemistry that kept us watching for five seasons. With nightly re-runs this couples continues to be a positive example of unconditional love for young couples today.
Cliff and Clair Huxtable from The Cosby Show
The best part of The Cosby Show was the Huxtables! This relationship is arguably the first representation of real black love on TV. Cliff and Clair were both educated, hilarious, and great parents. Their endearing relationship is undeniably classic.
Nikki Parker and Professor Stanley Oglevee from The Parkers
Nikki Parker’s obsession with Professor Oglevee epitomized an ultimate crush, someone you’d do absolutely anything and everything for. And no matter how many times Nikki got turned down, she was determined to get her man…and she eventually did! So if you’re feeling a little desperate over a crush you’ve been trying to make moves on for a while now, don’t lose all hope…maybe your dream man just isn’t ready for you yet.
Ray and Lisa from Sister Sister
Bumping into the parent of your adopted daughter’s twin may be an outlandish scenario, but it made for great TV! After co-parenting for years, Ray and Lisa eventually got together, truly uniting as one big happy family.
Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World
Who didn’t love Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World?! They were the epitome of soul mates. We followed these lovebirds all the way from 6th grade to their wedding day! Hands down, these two were one of the cutest couples on TV in the 90’s.
Jamie and Fancy from The Jamie Foxx Show
Jamie might have been the first man to be curved and friend zoned at the same time! He tried relentlessly to pursue Fancy, and she curved him each time. As they grew, we saw them become really great friends, and even though he was friend zoned, we knew that Jamie loved Fancy. Jamie was consistent with his efforts to pursue Fancy, and Fancy finally fell for charming, hilarious, and romantic guy. Jamie shows us that as a man, being consistent is important when trying to win a woman’s hurt, and their relationship proves that when two people are meant to be, they will be together in the end…regardless of how long it may take.
Uncle Phil & Aunt Viv from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv were probably the coolest parents on television! They had an admirable and loving relationship that we all looked up to. Both successful and outspoken, but Phil was hot tempered while Viv was cool and seductive; Viv was the only one that could tame Phil. Their relationship still shows us how important it is to find balance with your partner, work together as a team, and enjoy each other while doing so.
Whitley & Dwayne from A Different World
Everybody’s favorite college sweethearts, who gave us the best proposal scene in television history! Whitley and Dwayne’s relationship is the ultimate example of unconditional love. They broke up with each other, got back together, yelled at each other, had fun together, and forgave each other time and time again. The cutest thing about these two is that Dwayne truly adored Whitley, Whitley loved her “Pookie,” and the two just couldn’t stay away from each other despite their differences. Dwayne’s pleading while Whitley was at the alter with another man is proof that no matter what, true love will always find a way!
Laura and Steve from Family Matters
Talk about the thirst is real! Steve Urkel, the super scrawny geek, was super thirsty for the gorgeous Laura Winslow, and of course the love was unrequited. Laura loved Stefan but was more in love with Steve because he always showed her nothing but love and respect, even when she would curve him. They were friends that grew up together, saw each other at their ugliest, and still fell in love. Steve wasn’t the finest thing walking, but their relationship showed us that in love, looks don’t always matter to capture the heart. Viewers couldn’t help but adore the beauty and the geek!
Nanny Fran and Maxwell from The Nanny
Who didn’t love the finest nanny on the planet? Nanny Fran Fine and Maxwell were such an unexpected couple, but we loved them! They brought out the best in each other. Maxwell was hardworking and boring and Fran brought the fun out of him. Though they both tried to hide it, but it was obvious that the two were falling in love with each other, and we were grateful to watch this love unfold before our eyes.
We wish these love stories were still being written, but hey! At least we have re-runs!
