After Beyonce’s last two appearances at the Super Bowl, one would think that the next performer would have some huge shoes to fill. But instead, Stefani ‘Lady Gaga’ Germanotta set some high standards of her own at the Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl LI, which has said to be one of the best shows in halftime history. The Mother Monster delivered!

More than 110 million viewers tuned into the SuperBowl performance. Lady Gaga’s suspending in from roof to stage, mid air summersaults, starry drone displays and epic mike drops were the talk of the evening. For the most part, viewers were blown away by her performance – at home and especially, in the audience. No one was standing still.

Many speculated that the singer would use her platform to speak about issues such as immigration, the LGBT community or women’s rights, but instead, she seemed to incorporate a message of unity.

The pop star opened up singing “God Bless America” and “This Land is Your Land” on the roof of the NRG Stadium in Houston before reciting part of the American Pledge of Allegiance. She dressed in a custom sparkling, silver beaded Atelier Versace bodysuit with matching knee-high boots. Then, she suspended to center stage singing “Poker Face.”

She performed some of her greatest hits including “Born This Way,” while a group of backup dancers circled her on stage through fog and fireworks and more amazing spectacles that made the show even more visually appealing.

She followed up with “Telephone” with a high-energy dance routine, ending with the camera zooming out from the sky to show the image of dancers who looked like rotating lights (was anyone else waiting for Beyoncé to pop out on stage for her verse of “Telephone”?)

By the next song, “Just Dance,” the crowd couldn’t be tamed as they watched her play a keytar. Mellowing the audience down, she asked, “America, world, how you doing tonight? We’re here to make you feel good. You wanna feel good with us?” The crowd waved candles in the air while she performed “Million Reasons” on the piano. Gaga also gave a shout-out to her parents. The ambiance was amazing!

Her finale was the climax of the show with her performance of “Bad Romance.” It included everything from shooting fire, to a group of 40 dancers dressed in white costumes reportedly inspired by American Football uniforms. Concluding her performance, she did an infamous mike drop and jumped into the crowd with a sliver football.

However, the biggest surprise was after the game. Gaga announced her 2017 Joanne World Tour via Twitter! The forthcoming tour will be her first as a solo-headlining artist since 2014.

Lady Gaga’s career started off with a boom, and in 2010, she became one of the biggest popstars in the world. But four years later, her career somewhat dwindled from the spotlight. So when word got out that she would be a halftime headliner, it was unexpected. Perhaps it was an excellent come back for her impending fourth album, Joanne.

According to industry gurus, her performance showed us just why she was labeled musical pop queen and what her legacy has brought to the music industry.

Keep up the amazing work Lady Gaga!
