Kim Kardashian West’s career consists of more than posting nude photos of her famous derriere — don’t be so quick to judge. The savvy entrepreneur is a key figure in the business world and a mastermind at promoting her name. She appeared in the July 2016 issue of Forbes and showed just how much she has capitalized on a massive scale. This year alone, she has earned $51 million landing her at No. 42 on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list.
Kardashian scored big with her new mobile game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which 40% of her yearly paycheck comes from. The game allows players to create their own celebrity, befriend Kim and work their way onto the A-list.
Since its June 2014 launch, the game has been downloaded 45 million times and generated $160 million in revenue. Forbes estimates that Kardashian has pocketed $45 million from it over that period.
On Monday, Kardashian-West tweeted her picute on the cover and captioned it “Such a tremendous honor to be on the cover of @forbes! I never dreamed this would happen & know my Dad would be proud.”
“I loved videogames, growing up,” Kardashian revealed. “I remember I asked Kanye, ‘Should I do this?’ He was like, ‘Yes!’ That’s how he got into music, because he wanted to do music for videogames and wanted to create videogames.” But Kardashian was still cautious: “I was like, ‘I wonder if people are really going to … mimic my life.’ ”
The glamorous reality star, modeled her virtual character after her own style and eye for fashion, spending time finalizing clothing ideas and okaying each storyline in the game. She signs off on every single outfit, from the eyeliner, to the hairstyles and the color tones.
It began when she and de Masi nailed down a contract brokered by her mother/manager, Kris Jenner, which provided Kardashian with “a small six-figure-minimum guarantee against, sources say, a whopping 40% cut of revenues, after platform fees. (Glu denies this figure.),” according to the story.
Kardashian was running businesses at an early age, gaining experience at her father’s music marketing firm, then at a clothing store for four years. She began her business endeavors through buying and selling designer clothing and another successful closet organizing business with her own eBay business
Even though she came from a wealthy family, (her father was a well-known lawyer known for famously representing O.J. Simpson in his murder trial). Their parents taught them the value of a dollar.
“Our dad used to say,” according to her autobiography. “Nothing in life is for free, you girls aren’t going to get just whatever you want.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and her family reportedly signed a $100 million contract with E! in February to continue their series for the next four years. Kardashian West also owns the online and retail clothing boutique, DASH along with her sisters. That’s not it. Her “Kimoji” business, an app of emojis based on Kardashian West and her life, brought in a lots of traffic from fans.
“Not bad for someone with no talent,” tweeted Kardashian, as her critics would say.
