Kerry Washington has it handled.
Our favorite Public Crisis negotiator Olivia Pope has signed an overall deal with the studio behind the ABC drama series, “Scandal.”
ABC Studios and its cable/ digital division ABC Signature Studios signed a two year deal for Washington’s new formed production company Simpson Street, which is named after the street the actress grew up on in the Bronx.
This is a huge step for the actress and overly private mother of one as she will be developing broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively for ABC and ABC Signature.
The Scandal’s star first project under her new company was the Anita Hill/ Clarence Thomas HBO movie Confirmation, which preceded the overall deal and was produced along with ABC Signature.
“I believe strongly in the importance of having a seat at the table, which makes starting this production company thrilling for me,” Washington said. “It’s an honor to be at a point in my career when I can help generate projects that that are exciting, necessary and truly reflect the world around us. I’m grateful to be on this journey with ABC, a network that remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
The actress is hugely responsible for the turnaround of ABC network when she became the first black woman in almost four decades to headline a network TV drama when “Scandal” first premiered in 2012.
“Kerry Washington is not only a great actress but a smart, creative producer, and we’re thrilled to have her new production company Simpson Street as part of ABC Studios,” said Patrick Moran, EVP of ABC Studios in statement also made to deadline.com. “We’re looking forward to making great television with Kerry both in front of and behind the camera.”
Congratulations to Kerry! We’re excited to see what projects she has lined up next.
