Years ago, interviews and paparazzi were the only ways to get the inside scoop on our favorite celebrities. In recent years, however, some celebrities have chosen to spill their personal tea on social media. Kerry Washington is not one of those people.
“I had a period where I was very open with the traditional media, and it didn’t work out for me so I pulled back,” the Scandal star shared during the New Rules of Social Stardom panel at SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas.
While acknowledging how social media has been beneficial to others, she explained her refusal to address allegations of a rumored divorce between she and husband Nnamdi Asomugha.
“If I don’t talk about my personal life, it means I don’t talk about my personal life,” she stated. “That means not only did I not tell you when I was getting married, it also means if somebody has rumors about what’s going on in my marriage, I don’t refute them, because I don’t talk about my personal life.”
Unfortunately for us, Kerry’s personal life includes her adorable daughter, Isabelle. Admitting that she often has the urge to share pictures of her 22-month old, she does so without resorting to social media.
“It’s like I have these itchy fingers where I want to just show my daughter because she’s so cute and instead I like, send it to my shrink or send it to my mother,” Washington said.
Any hopes that pictures would one day be posted on social media will ultimately be in Isabelle’s hands. “I want her to make her own decisions in her time and I feel like she already has a lot to navigate in life being the daughter of an actor and a former football player that she has a lot going on, so she should be able to enter this world when it feels right for her and not make that decision for her.”
Kerry Washington secretly tied the knot with pro football player Nnamdi Asomugha in 2013. On April 21, 2014, the couple gave birth to their first child, Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha.
With no tea being served on this beautiful family, guess we’ll have to settle with Olivia Pope’s complicated world.
