Update: Janet has released a statement Wednesday evening, denying that she has cancer via a Twitter video. She simply states: “The rumors are untrue. I do not have cancer. I am recovering.”
Janet Jackson had a great 2015 with the release of her 11th studio album ‘Unbreakable’ and a world tour well underway but the 49-year-old had to abruptly put her tour on pause. No reason was revealed as to why until now.
Before revealing the reason behind her taking time off, Janet left a message for her fans on her website, janetjackson.com saying,
“I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the ‘Unbreakable Tour’ until the spring.” She continued, “Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time…There will be no further comment.”
According to news outlets, doctors have reportedly found a tumor on Janet’s vocal cords that potentially could be serious. Her doctors revealed that this medical condition has to be taken care of immediately and if she is battling throat cancer, this could end Janet’s career.
Dr. Stuart Fischer explained:
“God forbid that this should be cancer of the larynx. That would abruptly end her ability to ever perform again. Singing would be impossible. Surgery would be very complex, and followed by months of radiation treatment.”
As for now, her Unbreakable World Tour is expected to pick back up in the Spring or even early Summer.
Our prayers go out to Janet Jackson and we all hope for a speedy recovery for the singer.
