L.A. Reid isn’t just a music executive. For the last 20 years, he has helped some of the biggest stars of our lifetime reach chart-topping success. He has contributed to the careers of TLC, Mariah Carey, Justin Beiber, Rihanna, Kanye West, Usher and more. However, the chairman of Epic Records has stepped down amid sexual assault allegations from a former female employee. While many are speculating why the music business legend was axed from Epic, Dj Khaled is plotting to take the throne.
DJ Khaled is one of today’s hottest producers, pulling together stars like Justin Beiber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne to create his recent hit, “I’m The One.” He was even able to feature power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce on his single, “Shining.” His music network is unmatched and his social media following has scored him spots on TV shows and landed him major endorsements. He is bigger than a DJ; he is a social media icon and music curator.
An insider revealed to Page Six that Khaled feels he is best fit for job. He reportedly told sources, “I make more happen than anyone in the game, why would I not be considered to run the label?‘” The producer has some tough competition though. It is rumored that Sony Music UK CEO Jason Iley and RCA President Tom Corson have their eyes set on the newly vacant position. Many have questioned if the hit maker has the knowledge to run the business side of music. While he is not a traditional pick for the position, Khaled could add a new flavor to the music industry.
