Idris Elba has played some of the most memorable characters since stepping on the scene as Russell “Stringer” Bell on HBO’s “The Wire” and now he is adding reality TV to his roster.

The father of two has signed up for a four part docu-series with Discovery Network UK called “Idris Elba: Fighter.” The series will follow the actor across multiple continents like UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand as he trains to become a professional kickboxer.

Your read that right….Idris is working a new career in the boxing ring. The show will follow Idris as he receives mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches. That will teach him unorthodox training methods and regimens to increase his chances of winning against a seasoned fighter in a no-holds barred bout.

It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally. Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time,” Elba says in a press statement.

The series will not only be produced by Discovery Network UK but also Elba’s production company, Green Door Pictures. He revealed:

I’m taking on the toughest… challenges of my life for this new Discovery TV series. The extreme challenges take me right out of my comfort zone as I compete against the best,” he said.

This isn’t the actor’s first rodeo of extreme adventures. Idris previously immersed himself in rally driving, street racing, aerobatics and power boating to not only master the discipline of racing but also the engineering, science and history behind it. In the process, he also joined professional teams, took on seemingly impossible challenges and received coaching by some of the world’s leading drivers and pilots.

If you’re looking to see the fight Idris is training for, you’re going to have to wait until early 2017 when the series is set to air on the Discovery Channel.

In the meantime, you can see the chocolate that is Idris Elba in the Summer blockbuster Star Trek: Beyond and Disney’s The Jungle Book.
