Wow! Didn’t we have some fashion melanin moments this past week, EGL lovers? From Tiffany Haddish being the first Black female comedian to host SNL and rocking stunning pieces styled by Bryon Javar, to Colin Kaepernick gracing the cover of GQ magazine using only black fashion designers! History and politics meets fashion type of week, huh? We got you covered just in case you missed it!

Here’s our fashion week in review:

Tiffany Haddish’s SNL Moment

Tiffany is our imaginary homegirl that we all want to see win! She brought her comedic style and one-of-a-kind fashion to her Saturday Night Live (SNL) debut. She made us laugh our a**es off with her Cardi B impersonations and mocked fashion critics that warned her not to repeat her Alexander McQueen white dress from her “Girls Trips” premiere. Let’s just say, Tiffany wore it in every scene she could! Tiffany stated in a recent promo interview for SNL that, “I paid a lot of money for this Alexander McQueen dress, more than my mortgage! I’m gone to wear it as much as I want!” The comedic rockstar completely disregarded the fashion rule, “Don’t be photographed twice wearing the same thing!”

Our favorite fashion moment from Mrs Haddish was the leather vintage number x Balmain shorts and over -the-knee Sergio Rossi boots. We are for it, Tiff!

Colin Kaepernick Is GQ’s 2017 Citizen/Man of The Year

GQ Magazine Instagram @gq Retrieved November 14, 2017

Former football player, Colin Kaepernick has been in the headlines all year for his National Anthem protest. Kaepernick continued his silent protest by declining to be interviewed for his GQ Man Of The Year cover story. Instead, he let his images do the talking! With the help of his styling team, he sported only designers of color and women designers. We love that he gave them an opportunity to be featured in GQ. The legendary designers included Kerby Jean-Raymond, the designer behind Pyer Moss and Harlem Haberdashery, who created the leather blazer for the athlete. They really let the threads make the statement!

Maxine Waters covers Essence Magazine

Essence Magazine Retrieved November 14, 2017 www.essence.com

All hail the queen as she gives us a moment in the December issue of Essence Magazine! The “Reclaiming my time” Congresswoman Maxine Waters graced the cover, which was titled “Everyone who gave us life in 2017.” She looked stunning in a blue dress styled by Zerina Akers, the stylist responsible for giving us timeless fashion moments donned by Beyonce. The spread was shot by photographer, Michael Rowe. Fashion and politics never looked this great together!

Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year Awards

The Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2017 red carpet this week was simply stunning! Every year, Glamour honors the game changers, the risk takers, and rule breakers of the world. Some of the women honored were Tracee Ellis Ross, Maxine Waters, Solange, and Serena Williams. So you know these women came to serve, right?

The most moving acceptance speech by @saintrecords as she was honored by @glamourmag 👑These words brought me to tears as I embark on a new journey myself. Fear is something that we must all conquer. It is the thing that tells us we can’t accomplish what we were put here to do on this earth. Maybe you have a dream or idea that you’ll be the first to accomplish. Maybe it’s been done before, but you don’t know how and you’re afraid to fail. As I face these challenges myself, I’m pushing through. With trepidation and the desire for things to be just right, I finally see that there’s no perfect time, only God’s timing. That’s what life is truly about. Overcoming obstacles, learning from your mistakes and living your life for yourself and nobody else. I’m thankful for my sister circle as I take my leap of faith. I’m even more grateful for my village: Grandma, my dear Sweetheart for your wisdom and prayers💜Aunt Debbie for your support my entire life and your understanding my creativity is just as much apart of me as the air I breathe, my God mother Gail for teaching me to take the jump afraid, Mommie Knox for your unconditional love and support and my mother who gave me life and created a fierce little girl who grew up to be a fighter. Thank you for the most valuable lesson of all: Follow your passion, not the money. #solange #womanoftheyear #woty #wotyawards #blackgirlmagic #glamourmag #dreams #inspiration #encouragement #conqueringfears #success #happiness #challenges #dontgiveup #pushthrough #walkinfaith #patience #prayer #persistence #determination
