You and your cute co-worker have finally decided to take your workplace flirtation to the next level. Both parties agree to go the secret route, but have no idea where to start. How do you avoid others being in your business or making assumptions about your budding romance? Have no fear! Here’s a list of a few things you and your new boo can do to silence the haters.
Workplace Etiquette: Determine how you’re going to behave in the workplace.
Establish rules. Agree on rules regarding keeping your relationship discreet and stick with them.
Refrain from PDA. Resist the urge to kiss, hug or touch your new boo in a loving manner while at work.
Separate work and home. Never bring disagreements from home into the workplace.
Follow policy. In hostile situations regarding other co-workers, allow your partner to follow proper protocol, instead of taking the problem into your own hands.
Social Media Etiquette: Establish barriers for social media usage.
Never post pictures. Instead of sharing all the cute pictures you take on social media, create a shared album where the two of you can upload, like and comment on pictures.
Disable locations. Turn off location tags for all social media platforms.
Delay your posts. Never post where you are while you’re there. Instead, wait until later that day to share.
Work Function Etiquette: Implement a plan for all work functions.
Mingle with other co-workers. You may be tempted to hang with your boo the entire night but be sure to engage in other conversations.
Take group pictures. Invite all co-workers to take pictures with you.
Always drive your own vehicles. Carpooling may seem more efficient but in this situation, arriving in different cars is always the best option.
Leave and arrive at different times. Stagger your arrival and departure times by at least 25 minutes.
When secretly dating anyone, you must go against the norm. The rules you create and the precautions you implement are not only used to deter nosy co-workers, but to protect your privacy as well.
