A holographic version of the legendary Whitney Houston was set to perform with Christina Aguilera on the season finale of “The Voice.” However, after a sneak peek of the hologram singing with Christina leaked for the world to see, the performance was cancelled. A lot of fans are taking to Instagram and twitter to express disappointment as they were excited to see the music icon come back to life. After watching the video, it looks like the performance would have been amazing and moving, however, Whitney’s estate seems to think otherwise. Pat Houston, executor of the estate, revealed the change of heart in a statement to “Entertainment Tonight.”
She said that the family genuinely did want the performance to happen, but they wanted it to be “perfect,” and the technology simply fell short.
“We are so appreciative for the opportunity for the Whitney Houston hologram to appear on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ with a talent pairing as extraordinary as Christina Aguilera. We are looking to deliver a groundbreaking duet performance for the fans of both artists,” Pat Houston said to ET. “Holograms are new technology that takes time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect,” she continued “Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection. After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air. We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless.”
The video of the duet was first leaked on Instagram and was soon all over the internet and blog sites. The video included Christina Aguilera looking stunning as always, and a glowing holographic version of Whitney Houston sporting her famous up-do and a white gown, singing her hit, “I Have Nothing.”
