Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams, aka Dr. Avery Jackson, is being honored at this Sunday’s annual BET Awards.
Many may think he’s being acknowledged for his intense acting skills, but when off-screen, Mr. Williams has been taking on way bigger roles. He will be the recipient of this year’s Humanitarian Award.
Williams has put forth outstanding and courageous efforts to help raise awareness for the “Black Lives Matter” campaign. He was also active in the Ferguson protests, as well as executive producing the recent BET documentary, Stay Woke.
“Jesse has proven to be a true pioneer of our generation,” BET said in a statement. “[He] is a refreshing new face of activism during a time of crisis in this country.”
On Sunday June 26th at 8PM, you can catch Jesse Williams receiving the Humanitarian Award live along with some performances from your favorite artists such as Janelle Monáe, The Roots, Future, Usher and more. With returning hosts Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, you don’t want to miss this!
