The Washington Redskins have made history by naming Dr. Robin West the director of sports medicine. She is the first woman to be a head physician in the NFL, according to ESPN.
Dr. West is used to extraordinary accomplishments. She is also the only head female physician in Major League Baseball.
Talk about breaking up the old boys’ club!
Dr. West expressed her excitement about her new position and being hands-on with the Redskins’ charities.
“I’m excited to be to joining the Redskins’ medical team and helping to provide the highest quality medical care, where we focus to improve performance, decrease injuries and provide immediate access to an elite group of medical specialists,” Dr. West said in a press release. “I look forward to helping athletes on the field and being involved in community outreach and initiatives with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.”
Dr. West is no stranger to the NFL being that earlier in her career she worked for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 11 years! She also worked for University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to Dr. West being revealed to the public as the team’s new physician, Redskins President Bruce Allen spoke about the hiring to the media, saying:
“We are continually committed to providing our players with the best possible health care and it starts with finding the finest physicians available,” Allen said. “Dr. West’s unique experience dealing with professional and amateur athletes makes her expertise extremely rare and we are glad to add her to our team.”
It’s safe to say that Dr. Robin West is definitely a boss in her own right and it’s always good to see women making big moves! Congratulations to Dr. Robin West.
