Since the inception of media mogul, Oprah Winfrey’s self-titled Network hit the airwaves in 2011, the “Queen of All Media” has been through ups and downs of keeping the network afloat.
But after partnering with film conglomerate Tyler Perry and introducing original scripted content, as well as adding positive reality tv into the mix, OWN viewership has been able to rise continuously, and the network just keeps getting better.
After the series debut of the religious drama “Greenleaf” making constant headlines, Oprah has made room for another original scripted series to hit the small screen this Fall. The 62- year-old worked with director extraordinaire Ava DuVernay for the drama “Queen Sugar.”
The teaser hit social media after the premiere of “Greenleaf” and now the full trailer is on youtube. We now get a closer look at the drama and characters involved in it.
The synopsis of the series:
The show centers on the Bordelon family who are somewhat reluctantly reunited when the family’s patriarch suddenly dies leaving a family in chaos and an 800-acre Louisiana sugar cane farm in disrepair.
The main characters of the story are played by former “True Blood” star Rutina Wesley as the older sister Nova, a community activist charged with keeping the family together. And the two other siblings in the show are played newcomers Dawn-Lyen Gardner and Kofi Siriboe.
“Queen Sugar” debuts this Fall for a 2-night series premiere on September 6 & 7.
