This weekend is the weekend of love! With Sunday being Valentine’s Day and the following day being coined National Side Piece Day, that means love is in the air! In celebration of love, we’re going to list five of our favorite celebrity engagement stories!
Barack and Michelle
Let’s kick the list off with the leaders of our favorite first family, Barack and Michelle. Meeting while in law school in Chicago, Michelle started off playing hard to get. But after a month of begging, Michelle finally agreed to let Barack take her on a daytime date. The two dated for some time before his proposal that took place in an elegant restaurant in Chicago. Having to make the evening a quick one due to having to study for a law exam, Barack put his plan in motion the moment he stepped into the restaurant. He gave the ring to the waiter, who then brought the ring out with dessert towards the end of the evening. And the rest was history! Two beautiful daughters, two adorable dogs, and 2 Presidential terms later, the Obama’s are still in love like the 90’s!
Beyonce and Jay-Z
Entertainment’s most loved and idolized couple, whether you want to admit it or not. Jay being the hardcore, street guy from New York City and Bey the southern belle hailing from Houston, I guess it’s true that opposites do attract. Beyonce isn’t one to share her personal life with the world but she gave a snippet of how the proposal went down during her mini documentary. She said Jay-Z proposed the night she took him to Crazy Horse for his birthday. During a 2008 interview, Beyonce sort of revealed that she did not receive an engagement ring. She said, “people put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me.” The couple does have wedding rings, but along with those, they have tattoos of the Roman numeral 4 as it signifies so much between the couple; both of their birthdays are on the 4th day of the month and their wedding day is April 4th.
Kevin Hart and Eniko
Kevin Hart has caught a lot of criticism about his relationship with Eniko, but despite what people say, that’s his “rib” and he loves her. So much that in August of 2014, he proposed to her with all of her family and friends there to witness. The original plan was to celebrate Eniko’s 30th birthday, but Kevin decided it was the perfect time to arrange an engagement. Check out their engagement below!
Ludacris and Eudoxie
In his song “Pimpin’ all over the World” Ludacris raps that “African girls are the best”. He proved to us last spring that it was more than a rap because he proposed to his longtime African girlfriend Eudoxie. Ludacris’ goal was to have a very creative and memorable proposal because the woman will cherish that moment for the rest of their lives. The two were on their way to Costa Rica for Christmas when he had “Eudoxie will you marry me?” written in a field below. Eudoxie says it was the “Best day of my life with the love of my life!”
Kanye West and Kim K
“Valerie, Imma let you finish, but me and Kim Kardashian had the best proposal of all time” is what Kanye would probably be saying right now so I’m going to end this list with the proposal of the West’s. It all took place on Kim’s 33rd birthday. Kanye invited over 20 of Kim’s loved ones and some of his friends from Chicago. Everyone gathered at San Francisco’s A&T Stadium not knowing that he was going to propose that night. Kim was blindfolded and when it was removed, there was a JumboTron that read, “Pleeease Marry Meee!” as Kanye held a rather large piece of finger candy by Lorraine Schwartz.
