Since the 80’s Naomi Campbell has become a household name in the fashion industry. Despite a controversial career, Campbell has managed to rise above her dark past and come out on top. From gracing the most elite of designer’s runways, to reoccurring roles on network TV’s hottest shows, there’s nothing Naomi cannot do. Naomi and Vogue:
During Naomi’s three decade career (and counting) she has appeared on the cover of Vogue internationally over 50 times. What’s more intriguing is that Naomi was the first black model to grace the cover of Vogue Italia, Vogue UK, and Vogue France. Talk about “Black Girl Magic.”
An opportunity to walk in Versace’s runway show during fashion week proved to be one that would shape Campbell’s career for years to come. Not only was she walking for one of the most prestigious designers of our time, but Naomi also walked alongside other leading ladies in the fashion industry coining the term “Super Model.”
Video Vixen: Michael Jackson-“In the Closet”
Naomi showed she could easily go from supermodel to video model. Campbell gained recognition throughout the late 80’s and early 90’s, a time when top models dominated the rock video scene. Naomi was featured with the late and legendary Michael Jackson in a video that would soon be known as “In the Closet.”

Time Magazine’s 1st Black Model:
As if being the first black model on Vogue covers across the country wasn’t enough. Campbell proved what she has to offer goes beyond the fashion publications when she was the first black model to grace the cover of Time Magazine.
As Victoria’s Secret gained notoriety, a top spot as a VS angel became an aspiration to most models. While Naomi never officially claimed her wings as a VS angel she certainly made her mark on the runway and in their seasonal catalogs.
Vogue Italia’s “A Black Issue”:
In 2008 Vogue Italia rolled out a special edition of the magazine entitled “A Black Issue” featuring fashion most elite black models of the past and present. Each model was started on the fold out Vogue cover. Naomi alongside Jordan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, and Liya Kebede stunned on the cover that would not only sell out on newsstands but also change the standards for Vogue cover models to come.
Olympic 2012 Summer Games:
While many models walk the runway, only a select few like Campbell can say they’ve walked the runway during the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony! During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Campbell embodied U.K. Fashion in Haute Couture by Alexander McQueen.
Zac Posen 2015:
In the recent years, Campbell still kills it on the catwalk. One of her most recent shows being for Zac Posen during his NYFW Fall Collection. Campbell strutted as the closing model of the collection, a prized position for most models. For Naomi, it was just another chance to show us a super model never loses her touch.
