Quincy Jones, 32, is an aspiring comedian who was diagnosed with stage four mesothelioma cancer last July. He was told he had one year to live, and started his very own Kickstarter campaign to become a comedian.
Jones appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and his campaign and inspiration on becoming a comedian caught the talk show host’s eye.
Although Quincy generated $50,000 in donations, Ellen had a better idea—she surprised the comedian with his own HBO special! Ellen said, “Here’s the thing that you mentioned last time, you want to do a comedy special…So what you don’t know [is that] we called the head of HBO. And your people didn’t even tell you this, but HBO is going to air your special.”
As the audience cheered with joy, Quincy was shocked and excited all at once clapping his hands, smiling. “You’re lying. Are you serious? Are you?” replied Quincy.
Ellen mentioned that his team knew this whole time about the HBO special, but everyone wanted to keep it a surprise.
The show will be taped at the Telegram Ballroom in Los Angeles April 4, 2016 and will air in the spring. Below is a clip of Quincy finding out the great news on the Ellen Show:
Ellen sure knows how to make someone’s day! Congrats to Quincy on his new special!
