Being birthed from a queen boss our self, EGL couldn’t miss the opportunity to head to D.C. for the TV premiere watch party for Centric’s newest show “Queen Boss.” The show premiered January 14 at 10pm and is like no other. It narrows in on the healthy competition between female, black entrepreneurs, showcasing why they are the nation’s fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs. “Queen Boss” contestant and owner of Shea Yeleen, Rahama Wright, hosted the show’s premiere party at the MGM National Harbor, leaving guest sfeeling soft and smelling good.
The hotel was spectacular, to say the least. Even with it being a cool and rainy night, the crowd didn’t seem to mind. People were piling in, trying to enjoy all the hotel and casino had to offer. The party was held in the hotel’s impeccable new spa, with beautiful displays of their beneficial health products, and their newest addition to the shelf, Shea Yeleen Shea Butter. Fruit, dessert, macaroni and cheese balls, and some meat that was extremely delicious were offered with drinks and pleasant conversation. Rahama and her team, the M.C. for the evening (Brandon Andrews), as well as the staff, all greeted each guest and made them feel more than welcome.

Hopefully you watch the show, and you’re loving what you see. If you have yet to catch the first episode, then the ending will shock you. Rahama Wright is a first-generation Ghanaian-American who pursued her dream of helping African women make a better financial living while providing customers with the purest form of Shea Butter. She is a part of the UN’s Women’s Empowerment in Africa, a Peace Corp volunteer and a public speaker. In her 11-year journey with Shea Yeleen, she has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, Women’s Health, CNBCAfrica and has been recognized by the White House. Her newest business venture with MGM National Harbor is in addition to the 85 Whole Food stores that hold her precious and, most importantly, moisturizing product.
It took me THREE tries over the course of 2 years to get #SheaYeleen into #wholefoodsmarket! Each rejection made me stronger because I adjusted my pitch and learned from the feedback. Finally in 2013 after getting into YouthTrade I met an amazing woman at Whole Foods (Emma) who mentored me and decided to bring Shea Yeleen into 7 stores. Now we are in 85 locations in three regions on the east coast. Moral of story: Never Give Up
The evening was wonderful and Centric seems to have a hit show on their hands. The show’s hosts is producer and business savvy beauty, Tracey Edmonds. Contestants go through 3 phrases: The Pitch, The Business Challenge and the Queen Boss Semi-Finals. So far, Lucinda Cross, Nailah Ellis-Brown and Anitra Michelle has been chosen for round three with 9 more contestants remaining. For entrepreneurial inspiration, business tips and, of course, some good ol’ entertainment, tune in to Centric on Saturday night’s at 10pm!
