A night at the museum! Well, at least that was the case for the few hundred guests of the Inaugural Wearable Art Gala, hosted by Richard and Tina Lawson. Saturday night, the California African American Museum filled with some of our favorite stars including Angela Basset, EJ Johnson, Tasha Smith, Kris Jenner, Meagan Good, Octavia Spencer, Kelly Rowland, Holly Robinson-Pete, Beyoncé, Samuel Jackson, Draya Michele and many more.
Serving as the masters of ceremonies, comedic actor Chris Spencer was joined by former daytime television talk show host, Star Jones as the guest auctioneer. The two helped auction off items including a pair of Lorraine Schwartz earrings, two meet and greet passes to 2018’s Coachella Festival, a one of a kind Prince painting, Beyoncé’s Gold Formation World microphone and a few other items.
The Lawson’s were able to raise close to $1 million for The WACO Theater Center to benefit young people through their mentorship programs and the arts. The WACO Theater Center is dedicated to the empowerment of artists within the LA communities. It’s founders mission is to create a space Where Art Can Occur.
