Some women don’t mind treating a man to a warm meal or taking him out for a movie. But is it offensive when the guy asks to go dutch as early as the second date? Could this be a red flag that he’s broke or cheap, and if so, should you run in the other direction?
Reckon Before Reaction
You want to give the guy credit for the awesome first date, but his request to split the tab on the second date puts a huge gash in that! You’re not saying he’s the worst date you’ve been on, but he definitely seems to be the most interesting. At this point you can’t seem to differentiate frugal from cheapskate, but as it’s still early in the game, this maybe his way of testing you to see if you stand up to his expectations. Maybe he wants to see how independent you are! Being too quick to judge may cost you more in the long run.
Yay or Nay?
So do you take him up on his offer or tell him to take a hike? Well…that all depends on you and the answers you come up with after asking yourself a few questions. Think about it. Do his other qualities outweigh this one hurdle? Isn’t he entitled to see what you bring to the table? And who’s to say he won’t pick up the tab when the date is over? You’re definitely going to have to go with your gut instinct on this one and measure what’s most important to you.
Only Time Will Tell
So whether or not you decide to take him up on his offer depends on you. Things can either go uphill or downhill from this point, but only time will tell if you made the right decision. At any rate, the last thing you want to do is give false hope or waste one another’s time by dragging him along.
In any case, don’t put the carriage before the horse by jumping to conclusions. Just let things flow and remember: just as you have your way of dating, he has his!
