It’s that time of year again! The 2016 BET Awards are on the way and the nominations have been announced. Drake is in the lead with a total of nine nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration. However, he’s facing some pretty serious competition for the title of Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, going against J. Cole, Fetty Wap, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Future who are all up for the award as well.

There is also serious competition for the title of Best Female Hip Hop Artist. Nicki Minaj has claimed the award for the past six years, but this year she’s up against Dej Loaf, Remy Ma, Lil Kim and Missy Elliott. The Leader of the Barbz has been laying low while she works on acting and her upcoming television series.  Meanwhile, Remy Ma is definitely on the comeback as she is featured on the hit single “All The Way Up,” Lil’ Kim is getting a lot of buzz from the Bad Boy Reunion Tour, Missy Elliot came back this year with her hit, “WTF” and last but not least, Dej has been hot pretty much since she came out. So the title is really up in the air this year.

Aside from that, the BeyHive and the Navy are going to have a showdown as both Bey and Rihanna are nominated for five awards with face-offs in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration and Video of the Year categories.

These nominees represent depth and diversity in achievement over the past year and we look forward to recognizing them next month,” said BET’s President of Programming, Stephen Hill. He continued on to say, “This show will be innovative and special; in addition to celebrating the best in entertainment, we’ll also spend time throughout the show remembering Prince as only BET can. You can count on memorable performances and moments in honor of a true legend.”

The BET awards are due to air live June 26th from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8pm, exclusively on BET and Centric. We’re sure it’s going to be a night to remember.
