The Broadway musical “Hamilton” has been very successful over this past year winning numerous awards. In fact, it has been so successful that even vice president Mike Pence was in attendance at Friday night’s (11/18) show. However, things seemed to get kind of awkward when Pence was spotted exiting the building at the end of the show. Brandon Dixon, who plays Aron Burr in the hit musical, had a very unscripted message for the vice president. Before the message could be delivered he, of course, had to let it be known that Pence was in the building. After doing so, the crowed became to boo—some cheers were heard as well.

Dixon was sure to let the crowd know that “there will be no booing here, we’re all spreading stories of love.” He continued on to say that they had a message for Pence in hopes that he would hear them out. “We, sir — we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” Dixon said. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”

Pence responded to the message during an interview with FOX’s Chris Wallace on Sunday saying that he understands that some people are still disappointed about their candidate not winning in the election. However, he wants to reassure the American people that everything Trump said on election night, he meant from the bottom of his heart as he is preparing to bring all the people of the United States together despite diverse views. He continued on to say, “My daughter and I and her cousins really enjoyed the show. ‘Hamilton’ is just an incredible production, incredibly talented people. It was a real joy to be there. When we arrived, we heard a few boos, and we heard some cheers,” he said, “I nudged my kids and reminded them that is what freedom sounds like.

Of course, president elect Donald Trump was not going to keep quiet on the matter.  He took to his favorite platform, Twitter, to demand that the cast apologize to Pence for being rude. He says that the theater should be a safe and special place. He also wasted no time throwing shade at the cast, calling their show “overrated.”

Some have been criticizing the president elect for choosing to speak on this matter but not on all of the violence that has erupted since his presidency.  Hip-hop entrepreneur, Russell Simmons decided to respond to Trump via Twitter saying “Apologize for challenging you to be President for all of America?   Lol. It is just a request.
