The classic romantic drama Love Jones has always been essential in African American culture. Well now, one of our favorite films will be heading to the stage as a musical! The drama is centered on the many different phases of love and relationships. Although the original Love Jones was released in 1997, the film just never seemed to get old as not a year goes by that a sequel to the classic has not been posed. With that being said, no, a sequel is not officially in the works, but Love Jones the musical is headed to a theater near you!
Nia Long and Larenz Tate will unfortunately not be a part of the musical project, but do not worry! Music Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosius, Raheem DeVaughn and Dave Hollister are all said to be taking the stage. Theodore Witcher, who wrote and directed the original film, will also be taking the wheel in the theatrical version.
MC Lyte was the one to release the news to the public via Instagram which now has fans wondering will she too be a part of the project? With her post, she included invites to follow along for more details and VIP privileges at the show. The musical is currently set to come to life this fall. We’re sure it will be an amazing experience!
