When it comes to Future, we can expect that Ciara will NEVER EVER utter his name, no matter the circumstances.

On Monday morning, Ciara and Ludacris, both hosts for the 2016 Billboard Awards, visited Good Morning America, where they announced the nominations for each category. Ciara, who was responsible for reading aloud the nominees for Best Rap Artist, did just that. However, upon viewing Future’s name, she remained silent, leaving her partner to step in and put an end to the awkward moment that thousands of people were witnessing on live television.

Whether her refusal to say the name of her ex fiancé was a result of legal matters, a sign that she has not fully moved on, or simply a tap into her inner Petty WAP, is still in question, but surely this would not have even been a topic of conversation had she been forewarned by the morning show. However, since it is, none of the three possibilities are a reach, considering their rocky relationship over the past few years.

Following a very public breakup in 2014, the formerly engaged couple have frequently been in the headlines, especially regarding Future’s views on Ciara letting their son hang around her new fiancé, Russell Wilson, without his consent, and the barriers preventing the rapper from seeing his son. Future’s expression ultimately resulted in Ciara filing a $15 million defamation lawsuit against him.

Ciara’s potential shade may have stolen the show, but it is important to keep in mind the original purpose of her visit to GMA –  the nominations!
