It has been reported that the legendary Chaka Khan, known for classics like “Through The Wire” and “Tell Me Something Good,” has checked herself into rehab. The singer, who is currently 63-years-old, reportedly did not go into rehab alone. Sources say she and her sister, Yvonne Stevens, have entered a rehabilitation program to treat their addictions to prescription drugs. Khan has reportedly said that she has been struggling with addiction to the same drug that killed Prince, and his death has encouraged her to get help. Prince died from an overdose of fentanyl, an opioid painkiller at age 57 at his Paisley Park studios in April.
While news is breaking of Chaka Khan headed to rehab, her daughter, Indira, took to social media to share an interesting message. She posted an old photograph of her and her beloved mother and it was captioned “Dear Facebook Family, there is an disgruntled ex-employee going around lying about my vocal recovery she is calling herself my mother’s representative this information is FALSE please do not believe the hype this person who shall remain nameless needs to focus on her life and children and stop trying to sabotage my mother’s reputation Thank you all and God Bless”.
So is Chaka really battling an addiction? Or does she have some phony representative trying to sabotage her reputation? We are not sure where Indira was going with her message or if Chaka’s alleged battle with the same drug that killed prince is factual, but we do send our prayers to the family and hope they get everything straightened out.
