body image

How you feel about yourself is so important. Many people struggle with the way they see themselves, regardless of how others see them. Many find it hard to be positive and only focus on the negative. Negative body image is when one doesn’t like what they see when looking in the mirror. They may not like their skin, their weight, their facial features, their hair, etc. Unfortunately, unhealthy or negative body image is connected with low self-esteem, making it difficult to be comfortable in the skin they’re in.

Many times it has much to do with how society portrays beauty. There are times that the media can subconsciously display what beauty as a whole should look like. When there’s a particular body type that is being thrown out through the media, it causes some people to question if what they see in the mirror is just as beautiful. Regardless of what we see or what society may pass off as the only beauty there is, we have to learn to be comfortable in our own skin. We have to learn to love what we see when we look in the mirror. It may take time to get to a place where we genuinely love ourselves, flaws and all. Acknowledging where we are may be the first step, as well as realizing no one is perfect.
