On Tuesday night, ABC news anchor Robin Roberts sat down with Grammy-winning icon Bobby Brown for a special 20/20 sit-down. The interview showed Bobby’s “grief to greatness,” as he answered questions for the first time about his late daughter Bobbi Kristina and his new memoire, Every Little Step.
During the interview, Brown also spoke on his marriage to Whitney Houston. He expressed, “I was deeply in love with her [Whitney], for the rest of my life, I think, I will have that feeling towards her because she was that one person the knew me, that one person that had no judgment.”
Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston were known for their amazing talents, but also for their usage of drugs. Brown opened up about the first time he saw Whitney using drugs.
Robin Roberts shared, “When I showed him a picture of her from his wedding day and asked him what thoughts come to mind and he said how happy and loved but he also said that was the first time he saw her doing hard drugs – the first time he walked in and as he said it, was doing a line of cocaine.” Brown said she offered him some, but he then said no.
“She did drugs, but drugs didn’t do her. She knew how to handle herself,” Brown said. “It only made me, you know, love and want to protect her more at the time.”’
Though the couple both used, Bobby said he never allowed Bobbi Kristina to see them doing drugs. The My Prerogative singer confessed that he and Whitney could have did a better job parenting Bobbi Kristina.
In 2012, the death of Whitney resorted in their daughter using drugs, and three years later, Bobbi Kristina was found the same way her mother passed away. Brown said during the interview that Bobbi’s former boyfriend, Nick Gordon, had something to do with her death: “There’s only one person that was around both occasions, he knows what happened. I don’t know what happened that night, but he does.”
Though Bobby is still in a lot of pain, he is comforted by his current wife, who is also his manager, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, and their children.
“He has good days and bad days, and he struggles like everybody else. He gets on his knees, and he prays, and he asks for support, and he has really strong faith,” Brown’s wife stated.
Along with his loving family, Bobby is currently finding happiness in his cooking and his upcoming book, Every Little Step, which will be released on June 13. He is also coming out with a line of barbeque sauces.
