If the news of Being Mary Jane coming to end broke your heart, dry your eyes— because Gabrielle Union is back and in full force.
Last we heard, one of our favorite #blackgirlmagic television series, “Being Mary Jane” was officially canceled and would wrap up this year with a two-hour movie. However, it seems that Gabrielle won’t be gone for too long and has reportedly signed on to bringing back a classic to our TV screens— a Bad Boys spinoff series.
NBC has reportedly given the green light to begin the pilot for the series, and Union will star as Syd Burnett. If you can remember, in Bad Boys 2, her character was introduced as Detective Marcus Burnett’s little sister (played by Martin Lawrence) who then started dating Detective Mike Lowrey (played by Will Smith) secretly. And, on top of that, it was revealed she was also secretly dating a vicious Kingpin.
In the new show, Syd has left her job with the DEA and has a new beginning as an LAPD detective. She has partnered with Nancy McKenna, a working mom who envies Syd’s freedom (a “grass is greener on the other side” type of envy). Both ladies have different lifestyles and perspectives, but however, they both are on top of their game in the field. In addition to starring in the series, Gabrielle will also be executive producer hand and hand with Jerry Bruckheimer; producer of the Bad Boy films. Can we say #BossMoves?!
No word yet if Lawrence or Smith will make appearances on the show.
