Step into spring 2017 with one of the oldest throwbacks to make the biggest comeback… THE SLINGBACK!
Everybody knows that in the realm of fashion, trends have a tendency to recycle themselves and this spring is no different. The slingback is back with a vengeance and in the shape they’ve returned, you would think they never left! No longer will they be remembered as the shoe that your mother’s mother used to step out in back in her day. They’re the classic oldie, perfect for the modern girl with flare.
The past few spring seasons the shoe trend consisted of sandals with two thin straps; one being across the toe and the other being right at the ankle. However, fashion is once again coming full circle and the ankle strap silhouette is now evolving back into the slingback form.
Proof of the slingback comeback was present in Spring 2017 Fashion week where the runway shows were littered with unique slingback styles. The Dior show where Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debuted her first collection, presented the Dior J’adior Slingback that stole the show. Playing off of the taping that we normally see on the bands of trendy Calvin Klein undergarments this Dior shoe added more of an ath-leisure flair to an upscale shoe.
Designer brand Chloe also jumped in on the slingback trend. This red number below dawned the runway and resembles something similar to what has been on trend in previous seasons. The thin straps wrap diagonally across the models foot and still sling back to secure around the ankle.
This is has translated onto the runways of Hollywood as well. Khloe Kardashian wore a comparable look to her Good American in-store at Nordstorm. While donning a lace body suit and cuffed distressed denim she wore a pair of $359 black fur slingbacks by Olgana Paris.
